Animals of the NFL
National Geographic Channel, 2003

JB hosted the world premiere of "Animals of the NFL," a fast-paced wildlife-sports show profiling the real-life icons of professional football teams. The show consists of mini-documentaries, each narrated by Earl Mann of NFL Films and dedicated to the animals that conjure up the fiercest, most skillful and revered sports franchises. With all the graphic intensity and rhythm of a Sunday afternoon match-up, "Animals of the NFL" is a dazzling combination of National Geographic imagery and NFL footage.
Unsung Heroes
FOX Sports Net, 2001, 2002, 2003

Each year for the past nine years Players Inc., the licensing and marketing subsidiary of the NFL Players Association, has honored one player from each team, selected by a vote of his teammates and fans, who exemplifies dedication on the field, as well as commitment to teammates, family and community. Called "Unsung Hero" awards, these awards are traditionally given to players who do not often receive the accolades given to their more famous colleagues, and, in particular, are not recognized for their community service and charitable endeavors.

JB has hosted the one-hour television special profiling the winners each year since 2001. Such role models as Kevin Carter (Tennessee), Kabeer Gbaja Biamilla (Green Bay), Mack Strong (Seattle), Kevin Swayne (NY Jets), Brian Mitchell (NY Giants), Donnie Edwards (San Diego) and Troy Vincent (Philadelphia) are featured, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the many unselfish acts performed by NFL players every day
Sports Pages with Kelsey Grammer and Bob Newhart
Showtime, 2001

The funny side of sports fandom provides the common element for two stories in this made-for-cable anthology feature. In the first segment, based on a short story by Don Marquis, a golfer (Bob Newhart) looks like he's about to break 100 for the first time, but his partner (Kelsey Grammer) keeps insisting upon following every rule in the book, much to his friend's annoyance. The second story is based on 1968's real-life "Heidi Bowl" incident, in which NBC-TV's broadcast of a hard-fought game between the New York Jets and the Oakland Raiders, which seemed likely to determine the AFL championship, was cut off - with 65 seconds left to play and the score at 32-29 - in order to begin a scheduled showing of a made-for-TV movie based on the classic children's story Heidi. JB hosted the two-part film.
JB has also hosted a number of critically acclaimed specials, including:
  • "Kobe Bryant: Destiny's Child" (CBS, 2001)
  • "Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods: Architects of Excellence" (CBS, 2000)
  • "Basketball: The Dream Teams" (History Channel, 2000).
