JB Awards 2010
February 2010
The NFL's biggest heroes will be honored at the NFL PLAYERS Gala featuring the JB Awards, an annual awards presentation hosted by the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) to benefit Special Olympics D.C.

For the seventh consecutive year, the NFLPA and NFL PLAYERS, its licensing and marketing arm, have partnered with James Brown, host of "THE NFL TODAY" on CBS, to recognize NFL players for their individual contributions to their communities with the JB Awards.

JB Award recipients are nominated by their teammates upon the end of the season for their commitment to achieve excellence off the field through building better communities and stronger families. Out of the 32 players nominated (one per team), Brown will personally select several players to receive a JB Award.

Last year's JB Award winners included Drew Brees (New Orleans), Rock Cartwright (Washington), Chris Draft (Buffalo), David Thornton (Tennessee) and Kurt Warner (Arizona). These players were also finalists for the Byron "Whizzer" White Award, the NFLPA's highest honor, which was awarded to Brian Dawkins (Denver) for his commitment to helping children reach their dreams of playing football.

In addition to these award recipients, Brown will also presented special JB Awards to recognize the personal accomplishments of others around the NFL.

Honorees who received individual JB Awards last year included:

  • Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona) – JB Award for Impact;
  • Joe Flacco (Baltimore) – JB Award for Emerging Leader;
  • Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh)– JB Award for Perseverance;
  • Clinton Portis (Washington) – Special Olympics D.C. Athletes' Choice Award.

JB named Best Studio Host of the Decade by Sports Illustrated!
February 2010
Sports Illustrated recognizes JB among its best broadcasters of the past decade, saying: "Arguably the most ego-free sports broadcaster on the air, Brown manned Fox's successful NFL pregame show for years before joining CBS in 2005 and making that show more relevant, both in content and the ratings. The broadcaster has a unique ability to defer to talent sitting around him." Check out the article on SI.com.

JB Serves as Community Ambassador for AARP
March 2009
About his new role, JB says, "I am honored to serve as Community Ambassador for AARP, an organization that is devoted to the importance of giving back to the community and encouraging its members to make a difference by living life to the fullest. Giving is about more than just a monetary contribution-it's about helping to create a better quality of life for others through action. During these tough economic times, it’s important not to lose sight of giving of one’s self and I hope that by sharing my personal experiences, I will be able to motivate others to get more involved and help them discover the joys that giving back can bring to not only the lives of those they help, but also to themselves."
