All Stars Helping Kids
Founded in 1989 by NFL Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott - JB's good friend and former colleague at FOX Sports - All Stars Helping Kids is a non-profit organization based on the idea that a community can help raise a child. Corporate and private donations and proceeds from special events support projects focused on helping disadvantaged youth in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since its inception, All Stars has assisted children facing health problems, disabilities, lack of education, family struggles, crime and economic hardship. Each year, the Board of Directors selects projects to fund which they feel strengthen the fabric and the spirit of the youth in the community.
JB is a member of the Executive Advisory Board. |
American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA)
Good foot health is vital to good overall health and podiatrists provide the vast majority of foot health care services in the United States. The APMA's primary mission is to improve the quality of foot care in the US by attracting qualified young men and women to the field and increasing the awareness of the importance of foot health among the general public and other health professionals.
JB's involvement with APMA has a very personal side. His mother is diabetic and he understands first-hand the importance of professional foot care, especially for minorities. Over the past three years, he has taped a number of national public service announcements, broadcast on both television and radio, for APMA.

The Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation (DGYLF)
The Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation believes that for children to grow into successful adults, they must have early and committed support in four areas: education, values, home and community. The Foundation works to shape the lives of children whose family lives and circumstances have all too often limited their opportunities to realize their full potential. To open the doors of opportunity for every girl and boy, the DGYLF encourages efforts designed to nurture the child, heal the family, and rebuild the community.
JB is a member of the Honorary Board for DGYLF. He participates in numerous Foundation events, speaking and introducing his friend Darrell Green, a former Washington Redskin.

The HollyRod Foundation
The HollyRod Foundation was founded in 1997 by NFL quarterback Rodney Peete and actress Holly Robinson Peete in honor of Holly's father, Matthew T. Robinson, Jr., who was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 1982 at the age of 46. Moved by Mr. Robinson's struggle and the struggle of others, Holly and Rodney were determined to help alleviate the financial burdens associated with the disease for those less fortunate. They set out to create an organization that cared for a patient's immediate financial, physical and emotional needs. Since its inception, HollyRod has grown into an organization that helps to support those suffering with Parkinson's Disease around the country. HollyRod holds various fundraisers throughout the year including DesignCure, a night of fashion, music and fun with top celebrities and designers, as well as an annual pre-Super Bowl party.
JB is a member of the Foundation's Advisory Board and is proud to assist his friends in their work.

The National Niemann-Pick Disease Foundation
Niemann-Pick Type C is a rare genetic disease that prevents the proper metabolism of cholesterol by cells. The disease primarily affects children and leads to progressive neurological decline, resulting in the loss of walking and other movement, loss of speech, and even loss of the ability to swallow. Niemann-Pick Type C is always fatal and children usually die in their teenage years. The National Niemann-Pick Disease Foundation offers support for families, funds medical research for a cure, and provides information to medical professionals concerning diagnosis and treatment. Recent studies indicate that research on Niemann-Pick Type C may help identify treatments for heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease.
JB is personally linked to this worthy foundation because of his friendship with Hunter Ozmer and her family. Hunter is a beautiful 18-year-old young woman who met JB while receiving medical care at The National Institutes of Health.
